About the Author
Character evolution happens in a single story or over the course of several, and I think that it's one of the most addictive and exciting aspects of creativity. I've written several novel series, some centered around a particular character or characters that I fell in love with and others, around a plot or premise that I enjoyed, and that inevitably spawned a character that I came to love.
Jordan Gatewood was first introduced in a book I wrote called Beautiful, Dirty, Rich, and from the very beginning of that series (three books) I knew what his ultimate fate would be in book three. He was the bad guy, the villain, and I made sure to write him that way, and to create this man that I wanted you to hate and I succeeded because people hated him.
Along the way, however, something strange began to happen. The character, Jordan Gatewood set a trap for me and began to show me his soul. It was as if he was staging his own private protest against everything that I believed him to be and against everything I wanted to convince readers that he was in an effort to prove me wrong, or at least, to prove that I wasn't completely right.
I was supposed to have been done with this dude. Crazy, Sexy, Revenge was to have been my last encounter with Jordan Gatewood, but by the end of that book, I'd made the mistake of falling in love with his mean ass. That wasn't supposed to happen, but I think he fell in love with me too, because he's refused to let me go.
He's been through hell. He's put a lot of folks through it too, but despite all that, he's managed to convince me that he too deserves something to live for and someone to fight for. Readers who are familiar with the Jordan from the Beautiful, Dirty, Rich series might be taken aback by this more patient version of him, but he's always been complicated and that hasn't changed. Jordan latches on to what he wants and he doesn't let go until he gets it. In this case, what he wants is Abby Rhodes. So, yes--he's a bit different. He has to be if he wants to win her over. But breathe easy, ladies and gentlemen. Jordan Gatewood is still savage, ruthless, and dangerous. For now, though, he's in love - truly, for the first time in his life.
