About the Author

Sherri Shafer

Sherri Shafer is an educator in the outpatient diabetes specialty clinics at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, where she has provided nutritional counseling and diabetes self-management education to thousands of people since 1992.

Sherri, a senior registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, is an instructor for diabetes self-management workshops through the Diabetes Teaching Center at UCSF as well as the Diabetes and Pregnancy Program.

She has lectured extensively to medical professionals and public audiences; contributed to healthcare websites and professional publications; and developed dozens of diabetes educational materials.

In 2016 Sherri Shafer received the individual PRIDE award for demonstrating professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity and excellence in her career at UCSF. In 2005 she received the Excellence in Teaching Award, through the Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators.

She is the author of two books: "Diabetes and Carb Counting For Dummies" and "Diabetes Type 2 Complete Food Management Program."

Shafer received her degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of California at Berkeley.
