It was BBC Radio 1's 1996 "Ibiza Essential Mix" that transformed me from clubber to wannabe DJ. Fascinated by what I heard, I bought a second hand pair of turntables, my best friend's record collection, and started to follow the dream of becoming my newest hero, Sasha.With no other resource available when I first started DJing, I'd take notes, writing articles to refer to if ever I felt like I needed help. Joining the internet revolution meant 15mb of free web space, and as I'd already written these notes about learning how to DJ, I thought it would be good to share that information with the rest of the world wide web. This meant creating the 'Recess' persona, and expanding the site as my knowledge grew. Originally a small, basic website, www.recess.co.uk has grown over the years both in size and reputation, to become one of the foremost online resources for learning how to DJ, the place where newbie DJ's turn to.I really love teaching people how to be better DJs, so much so that I've found myself leaning more towards that than playing live recently - culminating in taking 9 months out to write this book.
