About the Author

John Whyte MD MPH

John J. Whyte, MD, MPH is a board-certified internist. He completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center, earned a Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health, was a health services research fellow at Stanford and attending physician in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Whyte has served as the Acting Director, Division of Medical Items and Devices in the Coverage and Analysis Group in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) where he was responsible for more national coverage decisions than any other CMS staff. He continued his effort to improve healthcare when he became Medical Advisor/Director of the Council on Private Sector Initiatives in the Immediate Office of the Director at the Agency for Healthcare Research Quality.Looking for a way to make a broader impact, Dr. Whyte became Chief Medical Expert and Vice President of Health and Medical Education at Discovery Channel in 2005 where he develops engaging educational programming that appeals to both a medical and lay audience. He lives with his wife outside Washington DC.
