About this item

CEMETERY and GRAVESTONE HANDBOOK looks at a variety of topics that researches find difficult to master. Each and every one can enhance the history and story of your ancestors. The chapters will help you with: - Finding and documenting your ancestors - Getting the most out of cemeteries, safely. - Deciphering gravestones to reveal stories. - Research veterans in national & local cemeteries. - Photographing gravestones as records and art. - Cleaning gravestones to preserve their image.Cemeteries and gravestones are as important to genealogy and family history as census data, vital records, and birth and death certificates, and other documents. Cemeteries give us a physical connection to our ancestors, a link sometimes more tangible than records.

2019 is closing and 2020 is on our doorstep! This has been a great year. November 1st saw my latest book "Cemetery and Gravestone Handbook for Genealogists and Family Historians" released. Earlier in the year I released a free book titled "Shot in the Butt". A tongue-in-cheek story of an embarrassing story from the Lewis and Clark Expedition. See how to get it on my website: phototree.com.2018 saw the release of "Teenage Soldier: Don K. Clemence - A Greatest Generation Story".This is the story of a young man who was drafted while still in high school during World War II. Such occurrences were much more common that most people realize. Follow his journey from high school to tank training to Europe and back. This is a story of the complexities of war and how it affects young men.I released in April 2017 "Lessons From The Gibson Girl - Her Quest for Equality, Justice, and Love", that illustrates many of the today's and past issues in context of one hundred years ago. This is a fun, yet serious book that looks at late 19th century and early 20th century values through the illustrations and cartoons of Charles Dana Gibson. Most notable for his 'Gibson Girl', his wider body of work was a serious critique of society. Many of my books, including the KwikGuide series, offer easy-to-follow steps for dating old photographs, which assists family historians and genealogists in determining who the people are in those old pictures. In addition, I authored a series on archive photography, gravestone photography, and care of slides and negatives. I have been a photographer and graphics designer for more years than I will admit. I began collecting, researching, documenting, and writing about 19th century history and photography for more than 20 years ago.I am the owner of the PhotoTree.com web site, a source of historical information about vintage photos; how to identify and date them. I participate in the genealogy community giving presentations and classes about old photographs, and as an exhibitor at major genealogy conferences. In addition, www.garywclark.com showcases all the books available from Amazon.com with detailed content and examples.
