About the Author

Lani Simpson

Dr. Lani Simpson, D.C., C.C.D., has established herself as one of the leading experts in nutrition and women's health care, specializing in hormone balancing and osteoporosis. She is a chiropractic doctor (Doctor of Chiropractic degree, Life Chiropractic College West, 1983) , and the first alternative physician to become a Certified Clinical (bone) Densitometrist (C.C.D.) , the certification required to demonstrate proficiency in reading and analyzing bone density test results, bone related lab work and medications used to treat osteoporosis.Using her clinical experience and her multi-disciplinary approach, Dr. Lani has educated thousands of patients and health-care professionals about hormone and bone health through her consultations, workshops and several Continuing Education courses; and now, with her new Bone Health Guide, Dr. Simpson has written a preeminent resource for both professionals and lay-persons to understand "the truth about density testing, osteoporosis drugs and building bone quality at any age."That path started in 1993, with her own devastating and mysterious diagnosis of osteoporosis. Mysterious, because two different bone scans, only a week apart, yielded drastically different results. Determined to find answers, Lani embarked on a journey of many years of research, questions, and, ultimately the writing of The Bone Health Guide. In 1994, Dr. Simpson co-founded the East Bay Menopause and PMS Center, and the East Bay Osteoporosis Diagnostic Center. She has been a LIFE chiropractic faculty member. In 1999, she was certified as a Speaking Circle facilitator, and has since taught many public speaking workshops.Today, Dr. Lani practices and resides in Berkeley, California, with partner and jazz singer Audrey, and their Siamese cat Sadie. Their son, Sam, is an engineering student at Yale University. Until she was 63, when she hung her skates up for good, Dr. Lani was also an avid street roller-skater.
