About this item
In this book, biologist Hofmann seeks an answer to the question, How natural are our house cats after 4000 years of domestication? Accompanied by Wegler's delightful color photographs, Hofmann's text shows that our "lounge leopards" are still natural-born predators and display the same behaviors as cats in the wild. Fascinating feline behaviors are discussed: a 12-year-old cat has been awake for only four years at the most (having spent much of its time catnapping); newborn kittens crowd around their mother's hindmost teats (they contain more milk); and some cats will visit their food dish up to 36 times within a 24-hour period (enjoying the ultimate in snacking). This title is similar in scope to Bruce Fogle's Know Your Cat (LJ 1/92) but contains more text.
