About the Author

Gillian Rogerson

I have always loved writing and used to create my own books when I was younger. My favourite book was The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton as I liked the idea of there being a different magical land at the top of the tree every day. Although I constantly looked for such a tree I never found one. As I grew up I didn't know what kind of writing I wanted to do and so I tried all kinds of genres. When I had my own daughters I used to read picture books every day to them and I loved that quiet time when it was just me and them and the magical world that we could escape into. That's when I knew I wanted to write picture books.I have had six picture books published to date - The Teddy Bear Scare, Happy Birthday Santa, The Smallest Hero,You Can't Eat A Princess, You Can't Scare A Princess and the Children's History of Leeds. I like to create characters that are a little bit different to what is expected.I have published many short ebooks for children, you can find details on my website. I love reading all sorts of books, I find that children's books are far more fun than grown up ones. My favourite author is Terry Pratchett, he has created the most wonderful world in his Discworld books. I've had lots of jobs including looking at storm damaged roofs, fitting shoes on wriggling toddlers and trying to sell car insurance to people who were just not interested. I can honestly say that writing is the best job in the world and I love doing it.
