About the Author

Michele Meek

Dr. Michele Meek is a filmmaker, professor, writer, and creative entrepreneur. She founded NewEnglandFilm.com, an online magazine, directory and festival website that has become a leading resource for filmmakers in the region, and she led the transition of the 30-year-old magazine, The Independent, to the nonprofit organization Independent Media Publications where she remains a board member. She has written and directed several award-winning narrative and documentary short films, including "Red Sneakers" and "Imagine Kolle 37."She co-edited the book "The Independent's Guide to Film Distribution," and she has published numerous scholarly essays in journals including Literature/Film Quarterly, Girlhood Studies, and the Tennessee Williams Annual Review. She is currently editing a forthcoming compilation "Independent Female Filmmakers: A Chronicle through Interviews, Profiles, and Manifestos" to be published by Routledge.
