About this item

Grade 6 Up–This revision offers major changes in access and content from the previous edition (Omnigraphics, 1997). The table of contents has been streamlined, the appendixes revamped, and some general index entries include subheadings. A detailed introduction outlines the volume's organization. More than 400 of the nearly 2500 entries are new and reflect our nation's broadening global and cultural interests, incorporating religious holidays of the Muslim, Sikh, and Jain faiths and Native American cultures, along with secular American days and festivities such as Mayberry Days and Bridge Crossing Jubilee. The alphabetical entries range from a paragraph to a half page and provide the name(s) and date of the holiday and describe the origins, activities, rituals, and foods associated with the event.
