About the Author

Tien Chiu

Tien Chiu is a textile artist, a writer, and a teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She's been fascinated by the creative process for over three decades, both as an award-winning artist and as a software industry veteran.

Tien studied mathematics at Caltech, then managed software projects for almost two decades before leaving high-tech to pursue a career in art. She believes that the artistic/analytical divide is hooey, and that art and technology should embrace and enhance each other - both in making art and in forging community.

Tien teaches people how to design beautiful handwoven fabrics at www.warpandweave.com, where she blogs about how to use color in your handwoven creations. She also has a personal website at www.tienchiu.com, where you can view her textile art, read her artist's blog, and enjoy the virtual company of her two cats, Tigress and Fritz.
