About the Author

Tammie Rogers

Tammie Rogers was born in McHenry, Illinois in 1960 to John and Carol Johnson. She is the middle child of three girls. In 1978, as a foreign exchange student with American Field Service, she traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa where she resided with an Afrikaans family and attended an Afrikaans high school for one year. During her education at Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA, she spent a semester in Costa Rica where she studied Emerald Toucanets in the rainforest of Monte Verde. A biologist by profession, in 2002 Tammie left a 20 year career in the biomedical field to devote attention to her passion of training dogs and their people; a diversion she began as a hobby after graduating college in 1982. She learned about livestock herding with her first Border Collie, a dog named Shamaron, with which she acquired High In Trial honors in different herding trial venues. She is a herding trial judge with the American Herding Breeds Association and raises and trains working Border Collies. Tammie and her husband Robert live on a working sheep ranch in Brownstown, Illinois where they raise Dorper-cross sheep. They also own and operate DarnFar Ranch, a full service dog training facility specializing in rehabilitation of aggressive and anti-social dogs. Tammie's website, www.DARNFAR.com, contains many examples of her writing in articles on dog training that can be found there. She is also published in several journals, including the American Kennel Club Gazette, The Ranch Dog Trainer, Borderlines and Working Border Collie Magazine.
