About this item

The Mystery of Mysticism is comprised of approximately equal parts of autobiography and discussion of the notion of mysticism. The autobiographical material is incidental to the mystical thrust of the book, but speaks of a highly varied path as a surgeon, educator, and administrator. Most of all, however, the autobiographical material is about the spiritual journey which has brought the author to his current interest in and commitment to a modern mysticism. A purpose of the book is to help us think about a new (old) paradigm of religion which is less competitive, less about being "chosen," less about propitiation, less about being "saved" (read: "special") , and more about what it may mean to have been created in God's image.
