About the Author

Nina Simon

When I was a teenager, I desperately wanted to do two things: quit school and design pinball machines. To my parents' relief, in college I translated these passions into a dual pursuit of electrical engineering and radical educational theory. When working at NASA proved decidedly less creative and social than I'd hoped, I shifted into science and children's museums, designing exhibits, producing puppet shows about math, and generally loving work in a free-choice learning environment.

I worked on staff at the International Spy Museum and The Tech Museum of Innovation before striking out on my own as an interactive exhibit designer focusing on visitor participation.

Writing has always been part of my life. I was a slam poet throughout college, and in 2006, I started the Museum 2.0 blog, which set me on a trajectory away from traditional interactive immersive exhibits and into the world of user participation. Now I write, consult, and design exhibits from a cabin off the grid in Santa Cruz, CA. And I couldn't be happier.
