The morning of September 11, 2001, Dr. Foley Brogdon is attending a medical conference at the World Trade Center, while Anissa, his wife, waits for him at the Marriott Hotel. By noon all of lower Manhattan is in complete chaos. By nightfall Foley has no idea where his wife is. After 16 days without finding her, he reluctantly accepts the heartbreaking fact that she is one of the many casualties that day. Months later, an anonymous caller informs him that his wife is alive and teaching in Georgia. Foley's first instinct is to dismiss the call as a cruel joke, until it occurs to him that the caller is in possession of facts about Anissa that only she could have shared. Soon Foley is on a plane headed to Atlanta to find his wife and bring her home, but Anissa runs for her life at their first encounter. Thus begins a relentless pursuit. Why did Anissa choose to disappear?

Kris Allis was born in Marietta, Georgia, is married with three children, and has a dog, a mixture of terrier, schnauzer, and love,that was adopted from a shelter. Kris enjoys writing thrillers and suspense novels. "A False Start" is this author's first novel. Inspired by an aunt who experienced the same circumstances as the main character in the novel, Kris wrote this story with her in mind. A thousand words can be represented by one picture according to Kris. Thus pictures of favorite things rather than a self-photo were Kris's choice. Kris is an animal lover, especially dogs. Zico, the family pet, was a natural choice as a photo, as well as the finished manuscript, a cup of herbal tea, and the colors of nature in flowers, trees, and water. Kris enjoys reading, bowling, dancing, spending time with family, movies, travelling, playing Words with Friends, and is an avid fan of the game of basketball.
