About this item

When you're about to face the world, who do you turn to? Andrew is leaving high school behind and looking ahead to a fresh start at college and distance from his not-so-secret infatuation: Laura Lettel. But when a terrible accident leaves him without the companionship of his two best friends, Andrew is cast adrift and alone - until Laura unexpectedly offers him comfort, friendship, and the support of a youth group of true believers, fundamentalist Christians with problems and secrets of their own. Andrew is curiously drawn to their consuming beliefs, but why? Is it only to get closer to Laura? And is Laura genuinely interested in Andrew, or is she just trying to convert him? This provocative and compelling debut novel will resonate deeply with readers as it explores questions of identity, sexuality, and spirituality.

About the Author

Pratima Cranse

When I was a little girl I dreamed of being a ballet dancer but I lacked both the talent and the discipline. I think intense early disappointments are good for the creative life. Later I said I wanted to be a chef but secretly I wanted to be a writer. I wrote terrible poetry. I read a lot. I did well in undergrad (I studied English) , but realized that academia was not for me. For awhile I was an editor at a consulting company. I spent eight hours a day adding commas and semi-colons to technical documents. Our boss provided free chips in the break room. All in all it was a pretty good gig but the company went under. Then I worked as a secretary in a church. Then I went back to school and became a nurse. Some of my jobs as a nurse were awful, others were interesting and fulfilling. Throughout it all I always wrote. I kept a diary in the voice of one of my characters, Andrew, who is the protagonist of my first novel ALL THE MAJOR CONSTELLATIONS. I believe you should read at least as much as you write, and that plot begins and ends with character. I try to practice what I preach. I am a Buddhist. I live in New Hampshire. My husband is a veterinarian. We are crazy cat people. Our toddler daughter is awesome. Please check out my web page if you are so inclined: pratimacranse.com
