About this item

Recommended by M.O., RA Librarian. Goodbye Days is a heartfelt story about Carver, a teenage boy who blames himself for his best friends' deaths in a car accident. He texted the driver, who lost control of the car when he attempted to answer. As Carver grieves and learns to cope with his altered life, he learns that the relationships his friends had with their families was not always as it seemed. The grandmother of one of the boys killed asks Carver to give her "one last day" with her grandson--doing the things they enjoyed together and giving her a chance to say goodbye. Soon, the other families ask Carver to do the same for them. It's through these rituals that everyone left in the wake of this tragedy can begin to heal. A beautifully realistic and empathetic story of actions, consequences, and courage.
