About the Author

W. Nikola-Lisa's interest in writing began as an elementary school teacher. He is the author of numerous books for the primary grade and upper elementary school reader, including the following award-winning books: Bein' With You This Way, Shake Dem Halloween Bones, and How We Are Smart. His most recent writing engages the middle school and young adult reader, with such recent publications as Dragonfly: A Childhood Memoir, which chronicles his childhood years in south Texas; Dear Frank: Babe Ruth, the Red Sox, and the Great War, a work of historical fiction set in Boston in 1918; and The Men Who Made the Yankees: The Odyssey of the World's Greatest Baseball Team from Baltimore to the Bronx, a book that won several national awards for nonfiction.
