About the Author

Allison Crotzer Kimmel

When I graduated from USC's MPW program, I thought I would be writing adult fiction or even screenplays. But with the birth of my son a year later, my whole world changed, including my writing. I joined SCBWI to learn more about the children's publishing industry and published my first book five years later. This May, my fourth book will be released with little bee books. It is a nonfiction picture book about a real dog named Sallie who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg . I wanted to tell Sallie's story because not only did she stand beside her men in battle, she stayed with them for three days after they fell injured, risking her own life. Her loyalty and courage are attributes I wanted to share not just with my own children but with all kids. Some kids, like mine, have been lucky enough to know and love a great dog just like Sallie.
