The storytelling is taut and expert, the descriptions rich and powerful, the prose full of feeling, but Boone is what drives this outstanding debut.

Alix Hawley is the author of All True Not a Lie In It (Knopf Canada, 2015) , a first-person account of Daniel Boone's captivity by the Shawnee, and The Old Familiar (Thistledown, 2008) , a story collection. Her story "Pig (for Oma) " won the 2014 CBC Bloodlines competition, judged by Lawrence Hill. She has twice been runner-up for the CBC Literary Award for Short Fiction. She lives in Kelowna, BC, with her family.
