Her later experience designing posters and programs in High School helped her choose an art school for college. At the Philadelphia College of Art, now the University of the Arts, Ponder took varied classes in addition to the required classes for her major, Illustration. Classes such as animal drawing and history of film still influence her today.Ponder was still a senior when she worked on her first illustration job and continued to work as a freelance Illustrator fro about ten years after earning her B.F.A.Though Ponder created only ten black and white illustrations for her first children's book, the experience brought her a step closer to the full-color picture books she creates today. Recently she adapted the song, "Animal Fair," into a whimsical picture book for children to enjoy. As well as creating picture books, Ponder may be seen at schools, libraries and bookstores talking and showing how she creates art for children.
