About this item

This all-star, all-female collective of West African musicians has united in a common cause: freedom and equal rights for women, and an end to violence against them. The project includes some of the most influential artists in West Africa today, both undisputed stars and emerging young talents, including Angelique Kidjo, Mamani Keita, Mariam Doumbia (of Amadou and Mariam) , Kandia Kouyat, and more. With varied musical roots, their music's distinctive character draws from both homogeneity and contrast - from Malian rock to blues, reggae and soul - with producer Liam Farrell (aka Doctor L) injecting something otherworldly and kinetic into the mix.
