About this item

How far would you go to see an eclipse? For a true eclipse chaser, the answer is "as far as I need to." Especially when it comes to a Big One: a total eclipse, when the moon's shadow completely erases the sun. But these unusual events don't come to you - you have to go to them. Video journalist Mike Rubens has always dreamed of seeing a total eclipse - and on March 29, 2006, he finally had his chance. To be there, he had to travel to Ghana. Eclipse Chasers follows Mike as he prepares his trip and follows his adventures and misadventures en route to and around Ghana. We meet diehard eclipse chasers from around the globe and find out just what it is about the moon passing between the Earth and the sun that turns people into lunatics. We start in Accra, Ghana's capital. We visit Cape Coast, the site of a week-long astronomical conference, and Kakum National Park, home to a vertiginous rope-bridge that passes through the forest canopy. We view the eclipse from the beach in Cape Coast, surrounded by local people and eclipse chasers from around the world. Eclipse Chasers captures both the exhilarating experience of the eclipse, and the exotic beauty and excitement of Ghana, often called "the friendliest country in Africa."
