About this item

(In Hungarian, with English subtitles) Keep in mind that what you see on the screen of White God, i.e. hundreds of dogs running in packs through the streets of Budapest, has not been created through special effects. The dogs in the film, the stars of the film, are really racing through the streets. These four-footed actors were all rescued from dog pounds, trained for the movie, and then adopted out to homes after the film shooting was done.  So, a story about dogs and people rests before us, an intense drama that revolves around the mindless behavior of people towards their four-legged companions.  Young Lili adores her dog Hagen.  But then her mother must leave her in the care of her disagreeable father while she attends a conference.  Dad doesn’t want Hagen around and senselessly abandons him on the roadside, to Lili’s horror.  The rest of the movie follows parallel stories as Lili tries to find Hagen and Hagen tries to survive in the world of abandoned dogs.  The four-legged acting is breathtaking and heartbreaking as well.  But a kind of transcendent justice emerges as dogs lash out against the humans.  Now the dogs of the world will unite and show those stupid humans a well-deserved thing or two.
