About this item

(In Hebrew, with English subtitles) A bit unrealistic (a bit?), this light comedy is still a lot of fun.  It focuses on six best friends, who hang together through thick and thin.  Anat is a hard-working baker whose husband leaves her, an act that devastates her.  She seeks out her pals for solace during their usual TV viewing of an international song contest, Universong.  When one of her friends makes up a song for her, a song  that both laments her situation and cheers her on, the others join in, harmonizing and enhancing the impromptu melody. Another friend records it and sends it out on the Web, where it goes viral, of course, because that’s what happens in comedies, right? The next thing you know, the group is being asked to represent Israel in that very same international contest.  But first they have to survive the rigors of preparing for this ordeal, learning new skills such as dance movements, promotion, costuming, and so forth.  And they have to work, really work together as a group.  Will they hang together long enough to win?  Will all the hard work be worth it?  Do they even have a shot at winning?  We’ll see in this confection as sweet as the icing on cupcakes.  In a different vein, Eytan Fox also directed Walk on Water, a much-recommended DVD owned by HCPL.
