About the Author

Laura Joy Rennert

Laura Rennert is the author of a highly illustrated chapter book ROYAL PRINCESS ACADEMY, DRAGON DREAMS (Dial, Sept. 2012) , illustrated by French artist Melanie Florian, and of a picture book BUYING TRAINING AND CARING FOR YOUR DINOSAUR (Knopf, 2009) illustrated by Marc Brown ... yes, that Marc Brown, the creator of the beloved character Arthur.

Lots of girls go through a princess stage, and Laura's daughter Emma was no exception. First, Em adored everything princess-y, and then she wanted to be the least princess-y girl ever. This funny, relatable switch inspired ROYAL PRINCESS ACADEMY, DRAGON DREAMS.

Laura herself is still stuck in a dinosaur phase that she never outgrew. If she weren't an author and literary agent, she would want to be a paleontologist. To borrow a line from a reader, she also thinks that "every princess should know how to tame her own dinosaur!" Though she doesn't have a dinosaur, Laura does own a ferocious chihauahua-saurus that you can see on her website, www.laurajoyrennert.com.

She is also a literary agent, and represents award-winning and best-selling authors, including #1 NYT bestsellers Ellen Hopkins and Jay Asher, #1 NYT bestseller and Printz Honor Finalist Maggie Stiefvater, and National Book Award Finalist Kathleen Duey, as well as brand new, first-time authors.
