About the Author

Richard Watson

I grew up in England, but moved to Australia in 2002 where in 2005 I received an out of the blue email from the commissioning editor of a well-known publisher asking whether I'd be interested in writing a book about the future. This book eventually became Future Files, published in 2007 and later translated into 16 foreign language editions. I'm now back in the UK and my latest book, Digital Vs. Human, is an investigation into how technology - and digital technology in particular- is impacting how we think and behave. This new book (number five by the way) is broadly about computers, the internet and screen culture, but it also explores the themes of automation, virtual and augmented realities, robotics and artificial intelligence. If this sounds a little technical or boring it most definitely isn't. The book is about people and ultimately how we might decide to live in the future.
